The Basque Government will provide Fundación Matia and its institute Fundación Ingema with 3,4 million euros for research in the area of aging and the design of new health-care models for dependents and disabled people. In a first phase, reflected in an agreement with the Social Affairs Department, the foundation will receive about 400,000 euros. This amount will increase in the future to 3 million with a second agreement that will allow carrying out health-care and home-care pilot schemes.
The collaboration will get to advance towards the design of a new and different health-care, as the previous ones were based on the family or in the homes, with no middle ground. The new health-care model is the meeting point between these two ways of caring elderly people or people with dependency.
The agreement breaks new ways of caring elderly people at home, leading to new health-care formulas, housing and equipment design, professional training, domotic issues, home help services, the intervention with families and care for care-givers. The development of these points is the objective of the agreement between the Basque Government and Fundación Matia.
