HERMES specifically aims at supporting aging people who are suffering from normal, agerelated, cognitive decline. Furthermore, HERMES' goal is to reduce the amount of further cognitive decline, thereby reducing the need for active care and support and substantially increasing the ability to cope with everyday life and to live independently. HERMES also addresses self-perceived and self-reported cognitive problems (i.e. forgetfulness), which can seriously hamper perceived quality of life. Through cognitive training and stimulation as well the knowledge of having an “external memory” available, HERMES can enhance the feeling of security and the perceived control over one’s own life.
